Watching Colin Kaepernick on Super Bowl Media Day, earlier today, really made me recognize how mature this rookie actually is. There have been numerous accounts of Kaepernick showing precociousness and the necessary intangibles to succeed, but I think today, I finally jumped on the Kaepernick Bandwagon, not as a frontrunner, but as a supporter. Here is the main point- Kaepernick gets it. Whatever it is, Kaepernick gets it. Whether it is coming into a game in Week 10 of a 6-2 franchise after one and a half seasons as a meaningless backup, or continuing to fight after an interception returned for a touchdown to start his first playoff game, or leading the 49ers to a second half comeback on the road versus the top seed, Kaepernick has demonstrated attributes that usually takes a whole career for some players to develop. Kaepernick's interview today showed his poise that he symbolically conveys each Sunday. I hadn't been able to see Kaepernick off the field until today, but now I finally am able to understand the root of his success. Like one of the many Yogisms, "90% of the game is mental, the other half is physical," the main reason for Kapernick's success is his attitude and approach, which neither can be taught only acquired. A player's mental toughness can make or break his career, and Kaepernick is already showing signs of it having a positive effect on his play. Last year, it was Tebowing and not to say Tim Tebow isn't genuine, I find supporting Colin Kaepernick much easier. Even though they both have roughly the same approach to the game, (That can be taken literally or figuratively.) Kaepernick is more reserved in expressing himself rather than opening himself to the world. That's why I have yet to meet a Kaepernick hating fan other than butthurt Falcon and Packer fans. You would never know this guy was a rookie, from his seemingly under control interviews to his keep fighting attitude on the field, Colin Kaepernick gets it.
Another class act of a quarterback on the 49ers is backup, Alex Smith. Though he lost his starting job, Smith is one of Kaepernick's biggest supporters and recognizes how special it is to be in the Super Bowl, regardless of how many snaps he gets to take.
