The Biggest Brothers in Basketball

This may be the biggest week of Mitchell and Marita Wiggins’ lives, with two of their sons at the highest point of their basketball careers. Nick Wiggins is part of the Cinderella story, Wichita State, and  heading to tomorrow’s Final Four.  Andrew just finished high school basketball’s biggest stage, the McDonald’s All American game.
Whatever Mitchell and Marita did, it worked.

Andrew is having no issue keeping up with the Big Bro. Little Wiggins was named as ESPN’s top high school player in his class and led the East last night, with 18 points. Those 18 points were no match compared to his dunk contest performance. Wiggins unleashed a series of stunning dunks on Monday night, evolving into a 360 between the legs finale. Andrew recently reclassified to 2013 before this school year, taking Jabari Parker’s spot as number one. A Canadian native, Wiggins attends one of the nation’s top prep schools, Huntington Prep in West Virginia. Wiggins is being recruited by UNC, Florida State, and Kansas, as well as being the potential final piece for Kentucky’s stellar incoming class. Andrew has likely less than a month to decide whether he will be taking his talents to South Beach, Chapel Hill, Lexington, or the Midwest.

Nick Wiggins might not be compared to Lebron or a necessary part of his team,
but he is just two wins away from a national championship, an unheard of feat for a nine seed. Wiggins did not see action in the biggest games of the tournament for WSU, versus Ohio State and Gonzaga. Throughout the entire NCAA Tournament, Wiggins has only totaled 8 minutes. The biggest game for Nick came on January 2nd in a 75-63 win over Drake. In just 18 minutes of action, Nick scored 18 points, including four three pointers.

Mitchell and Marita are undoubtedly overjoyed, yet still in shock, that not just one, but two of their sons have reached their basketball’s highest pedestal, let alone in the same week. Maybe Mitchell and Marita will be further amazed next year, if Nick’s Shockers returns to the Final Four, to take on Andrew and his team, unknown as of now.
