It Could Be Okay Without Jose

Jose Reyes's decision to sign with the Marlins, instead of returning to the Mets, may not be entirely bad. The Mets still have a strong foundation with numerous options. On mets.com, there are countless comments of how the Mets have hit an all time low. These comments are just out of anger. As much as it looks bad on the outside, the situation isn't necessarily that bad. The present state of the Mets is the opposite of gilded. Even though it appears bad, it actually really isn't. Everyone keeps saying that Reuben Tejada can't hit or even that he doesn't have as strong an arm as Reyes. This might be true, but Tejada isn't the only option. Ever hear of Justin Turner? The kid put up strong numbers and proved himself to be a quality everyday player. People keep wondering what to do with potential star, Daniel Murphy. If Murph can stay healthy he will be an intricate part of a promising lineup. Ever since he came up, Murphy produced and hit when he needed to. So with JT at short, Murph as his midway counterpart, the Mets are in a stable position and might have a chance at being above the .500 mark. Tejada can either stay as a backup with speed of the bench or be used as trade bait. With the fences being moved in, Wright, Davis, Duda, and Bay might be able to accumulate the offensive production of Reyes. More balls will be sailing over the wall, even if they won't be rolling into the corner for triples. Even though Reyes made a mistake leaving, he will pay for it in the end because of his greed. The loss of Reyes also will open new doors to the Mets as funds will be available for a decent closer and a sturdy starter. Besides, Reyes and Hanley Ramirez will both be gone within 3 years, regardless of their success.
