What is Going on in D.C.?

How are the Nationals 12-4? I know this team had potential, but 12-4? Really? How is a small market team in first place in a division where big name win out? It seems like just yesterday the Nats were a lowly, bumbling team. Now, if the season ended today, they would win the division. Well, the 4 other teams are off to slow starts, so the Nationals probably viewed this as a once in a lifetime opportunity. This is just like 1994- the year of the strike. The Expos- the pre-Nationals- were the best team in baseball, and on the their way to the first and only playoff appearance in franchise history. Don't tell me there is another strike coming up. The recent lockouts have irritated me to no end, as I was not able to write about anything except for hockey, and what is there to write about hockey. The Nationals have gotten off to a great start, and have shown their young team can compete, but don't expect it to last. With their ace on an innings limit, Strasburg will be done by August and Davey Johnson will remove him early in quality starts, which leaves marginal room for disaster by the bullpen, although it has been effective, so far. This season has been a feel good story of underdog success, but don't expect the luck to last. Eventually the Phillies will regroup their offense, the Marlins players will gel, the Braves will figure out their problems, and the Mets will get their pitching together. I don't see the Nationals as a season long contender, or even in a wild card position. The offense doesn't appear to me sturdy enough, nor will it be able to stay consistent for the next 148 games. Sorry, Obama, your presidency won't see a championship in the Nation's Capital, and the White Sox don't look too good either, except for Phil Humber and his perfect game.
